|
ALL EIGHT OF THESE
BOOKS HAD “ECONOMY DUST
WRAPPERS” CLICK
HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE ALL HAD A COLOUR
FRONTISPIECE EXCEPT “BIGGLES IN BORNEO” (I have no idea why
that particularly book didn’t, but I have checked a number of 1946 versions
of the book and they are all missing it.
I wanted to exclude the possibility that my copy had just lost it by
coming loose or otherwise being removed). ALL OF THESE 1946
BOOKS WERE PRICED AT FIVE SHILLINGS 5/- Note the lack of
uniformity with the colours of the book boards below. “Charter Pilot” is titled in a different
way as it is very thin. Also, note how
the author of the books is referred to in different ways on the book spines. On the wrappers he is just “Johns” but on
the actual boards of the books, he is either Captain W. E. Johns, W. E. Johns
and he is just Johns as on “Charter Pilot” and “Borneo” |

let me know at ALL OF THESE 1947 BOOKS
WERE PRICED AT FIVE SHILLINGS 5/- The book boards
below are now all shades of red with Baltic being the odd one out. The author is referred to as either Captain
W. E. Johns or W. E. Johns on the
actual spines of the book boards. |

IN 1948 EIGHT
BIGGLES TITLES WERE REPRINTED WITH FLYING JACKET DUST COVERS. THOSE 8 TITLES
WERE:- BIGGLES FLIES EAST BIGGLES HITS THE
TRAIL BIGGLES & CO. BIGGLES IN AFRICA BIGGLES – AIR
COMMODORE THE RESCUE FLIGHT BIGGLES IN SPAIN SPITFIRE PARADE |
|
ALL EIGHT OF THESE
BOOKS HAD “ECONOMY DUST
WRAPPERS” APART FROM BIGGLES
& CO. (Although I can’t
exclude the possibility of a mismatched jacket and book?) CLICK
HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE NONE OF THESE BOOKS
HAD A COLOUR FRONTISPIECE ALL OF THESE 1948
BOOKS WERE PRICED AT FIVE SHILLINGS 5/- The author is again
referred to as either Captain W. E. Johns or W. E. Johns on the spines of the
book boards, there is no consistency. There were no
illustrations on any of the front boards, hence there is no picture of the
front boards as there is nothing of interest to show. NB – Both Biggles
& Co 1948 and Biggles in Spain 1948 had two DIFFERENT coloured board
versions. One is dark green and one is
light green. You can see those differences

ALL

SPAIN - NOW REFER TO THE ECONOMY DUST

1949 |
|

IN 1949 SIXTEEN
BIGGLES TITLES WERE REPRINTED WITH FLYING JACKET DUST COVERS. THOSE 16 TITLES
WERE:- BIGGLES FLIES EAST BIGGLES HITS THE
TRAIL BIGGLES & CO. BIGGLES IN AFRICA BIGGLES FLIES WEST BIGGLES FLIES SOUTH BIGGLES GOES TO WAR BIGGLES FLIES NORTH BIGGLES – SECRET
AGENT BIGGLES IN THE
BALTIC BIGGLES DEFIES THE
SWASTIKA BIGGLES SEES IT
THROUGH SPITFIRE PARADE BIGGLES IN THE
JUNGLE BIGGLES – CHARTER
PILOT BIGGLES IN BORNEO |
|
NONE OF THESE
SIXTEEN BOOKS HAD “ECONOMY DUST
WRAPPERS” THEY ALL HAD “NORMAL”
DUST JACKETS WITH NO PICTURES ON THE INSIDE NONE OF THESE BOOKS
HAD A COLOUR FRONTISPIECE ALL OF THESE 1949
BOOKS WERE PRICED AT FIVE SHILLINGS 5/- The book boards can
be seen below and they are now shades of red or shades of light green. All of them have
the titles on the spine in gold. There is more
consistency with the use of the author’s name on the spines of the book
boards. The author is W. E. Johns on
every book bar two, “Biggles Flies South” and “Biggles Flies North” where the
word “Captain” is used. “Biggles – Charter
Pilot” refers to the author as Johns.
This is because the book is so thin the title is on the book longways
otherwise it would have been very difficult to get it on. If you look at the
flying jacket dust covers to the left, “Biggles in the Baltic” appears to
stand out as different. Now, I can’t
rule out the possibility of a previously mis-matched dust jacket and book,
but “Baltic” is more in the style of earlier “thick” black fonts used for the
book titles. The font used for the
titles of the books has now got noticeable “thinner” |
