THE ANOMALIES

THIS PAGES SHOWS CERTAIN EXAMPLES OF THE “FLYING JACKET” BIGGLES BOOKS THAT DO NOT CONFORM WITH THE REST

Above are the spines of Biggles in Spain.

Both of these copies were printed in 1948.

Yet the colours of the covers of the book differ.

I now have four examples of this and they are shown on this page.  The books published in 1948 were published in various coloured boards, dark green, light green and red.  It is therefore impossible to say which is the “correct” one!

Above are the spines of three different copies of the blue pyramid edition of

“Biggles Flies North”.  All of these three books show the 1939 date, so they were printed with the first edition plates.  However, the aircraft on the spine are flying at different “altitudes”.  See below for further comparison with 1941 reissues.

Above are the spines of Biggles in Africa.

Both of these copies were printed in 1952.

Yet the colours of the covers of the book differ.

I now have four examples of this and they are shown on this page.  With “Biggles in Africa” the correct uniform colour is the light green as all of the 1952 reprints were light green.

Above are the spines of Biggles & Co.

Both of these copies were printed in 1948.

Yet the colours of the covers of the book differ.

I now have four examples of this and they are shown on this page.  The books published in 1948 were published in various coloured boards, dark green, light green and red.  It is therefore impossible to say which is the “correct” one!

Above are the spines of five different copies of the blue pyramid edition of

“Biggles Flies North”.  The three on the left show the 1939 date, so they were printed with the first edition plates.  The two on the right show the 1941 date, so they were later reprints.  However, the aircraft on the spine of the middle one (a 1939 book) is flying at a different “altitude” to the rest.

Above are the spines of Biggles Air Commodore.

Both of these copies were printed in 1952.

Yet the colours of the covers of the book differ.

I now have four examples of this and they are shown on this page.  With “Biggles Air Commodore” the correct uniform colour is the light green as all of the 1952 reprints were light green.
