VI.                   A STAGGERING BLOW  (Pages 76 – 83)

The following morning Biggles, Wilks and Ginger pull the Jupiter out of the shed and get it ready to fly to Moose Creek.  Mose is late.  A man arrives on a horse and it turns out to be Delaney; the Irish-Canadian ‘Mountie’ makes his way to the Arctic Airways buildings.  Delaney tells them that Mose is dead.  Someone has “clubbed his brains out”.  “You mean – he was murdered?” asks Biggles.  “People don’t beat their own brains out” says Delaney.  Ginger remembers that Mose told him Angus was at Muskeg Bend on Eskimo Island.  Biggles offers to fly the food up to Angus as without it he will die during the winter.  Delaney goes to speak to McBain and his men.  When he is gone, Biggles tells Ginger and Wilks that McBain has killed Mose.  Biggles and Ginger go and get the supplies for Angus and when they return to the aerodrome they notice that one of McBain’s Weinkel Twelve Transports has gone.  Wilks says that Sarton was flying it and he thinks Chicot was with him.  Biggles and Ginger take off in the Jupiter and head north to Moose Creek.
