BIGGLES
FLIES NORTH

VII. THE
JUPITER HEADS NORTHWARD
(Pages 84 – 91)
Biggles and Ginger fly to Moose Creek and
pass over Wilks’ Rockheed, but on receiving the O.K.
signal from Algy, there is no need to land there. Arriving at the gold-field at Moose Creek,
Biggles goes to meet Canwell, the traffic
manager. Canwell
tells Biggles that one of McBain’s machines has been there and offered to carry
their stuff at fifteen cents a pound.
Biggles says they will do it for twelve cents – if Canwell
will give them a contract and a monopoly.
Canwell says he will think it over. Biggles asks where Eskimo Island is and is told
it is about five hundred miles due north.
Canwell says only Angus Stirling and Mose Jacobs are there.
Biggles tells him Mose has been murdered and
he is taking food up to Angus. Canwell offers them petrol.
Canwell has a big shipment of gold ready to
travel tomorrow and Biggles can take it if he is back – but it must go tomorrow
to get to the bank. If Biggles is not
there and McBain is, he’ll get to take it.
Biggles and Ginger refuel the plane and Biggles wonders why they never
saw Sarton flying back. Looking at the
sky, Biggles says it’s going to snow before very long and when it does it will
be for a long time.
