BIGGLES
FLIES NORTH
by Captain W.
E. Johns
XXIII. CONCLUSION (Pages 254 – 256)
Biggles confirms with Delaney that he
is no longer in doubt as to who killed Mose and that they are no longer under
arrest. Biggles wants to fly up to Moose
Creek to tell them that their gold is safe.
Delaney advises him to stay until he has spoken to the Captain of the
Mounties. When Biggles later sees
Delaney and his superior officer, he gives a full account of their adventures
from the time they received Wilks’s letter in London. Biggles reckons that when Canwell hears what
has happened, he ought to give Arctic Airways a contract for handling all their
freight. The Captain agrees and says he
knows the chairman of the company and he’ll have a word with him at the first
opportunity. A day or so later,
contracts are forthcoming. Wilks
implores the others to stay and share the profits of the enterprise but Biggles
is adamant in his refusal to tie himself to any one spot. However, they do stay on until Arctic Airways
is reorganised on proper lines. Wilks
finds no difficulty in getting staff with McBain and his gang removed. Wilks flies our heroes back to Quebec in one
of two Jupiters the firm now possesses and they say their good-byes. “Thanks for coming over” says Wilks. “Don’t mention it,” grinned Biggles, “It’s
been a pleasure”.
