III. WHAT
HAPPENED TO GINGER (Pages
31 - 44)
Ginger has been flying alongside
Biggles and lost him in the heat haze. Slowly
he realised that he had been drawn off the course he flew earlier. Seeing sunlight flashing on glass, Ginger
finds a crashed plane and thinking there may be survivors he finds somewhere
safe to land. Going to investigate he
find three graves by the planes but no one there. Suddenly the Dragon aircraft they are meant
to protect can be heard and eventually seen, being chased by three
Messerschmitts. The Dragon attempts to
land to avoid being shot down. Ginger
runs to view what is happening and is soon lost amongst the rocks and the
desert. He cannot see his Spitfire
anywhere. The heat is tremendous and
eventually thirst begins to plague him.
Shouting and raging, he eventually sinks to his knees as he is overcome
by the heat of the desert.
