XII. THE
ENEMY STRIKES AGAIN (Pages
137 - 148)
Biggles expects von Zoyton
to attack just before sundown and when the six German Messerschmitts 109 come,
and the feared Messerschmitt 110 bomber, Biggles, Bertie and Tex go up to meet
them in the three Spitfires. Biggles
shots the bomber down before it can bomb his Oasis at Salima. Angus arrives back in the Defiant in time to
help out and only two Messerschmitts get away.
Tex has been shot down but baled out and is
alright. There is one casualty, a boy
from Wadi Halfa who volunteered to be a gunner for
Angus in the Defiant is fatally wounded and dies at Biggles feet. Biggles gives orders for him to be buried
together with enemy casualties from the bomber shot down nearby.
