SEES TOO MUCH

MAKES A SUGGESTION (Pages
134 – 140)
Cole asks Biggles where he wants to go
and Biggles says Polcarron. Cole says fair
weather is on its way and he says “I imagine you don’t want these crooks to get
away with it”. “I certainly do not” says
Biggles. Cole suggests that rather than
go all the way back to Cornwall, they could go to Jersey and wait there, if
they plan to return to the island.
Bertie says there is an airport on Jersey and they can ring back to
Morven and tell the boys to bring the Auster over. “There’s a brace of pistols in the
locker”. “We ought to let the Air
Commodore know we’re not coming back tonight,” Biggles said. Bertie says Algy can be told to contact
him. They arrive at Jersey and Biggles
and Bertie take a taxi for the airport.
They get Ginger on the phone and he explains that the aircraft isn’t
there. Algy has flown the Air Commodore
back to London. Ginger will tell Algy to
fly out to Jersey when he returns.
Biggles and Bertie have to wait until it is nearly dark before the
Auster arrives. Algy explains that the
Air Commodore had driven Biggles car to Morven and that Algy then flew him to
Gatwick. Raymond was going to leave it
to Biggles to finish the job the best he could.
He would send Inspector Gaskin down with a search warrant to go through
Brunner’s house at Penlock. Biggles asks
Ginger to get the pistols from the Auster as he doesn’t want to forget
them. Biggles says he will spend the
night at the airport and meet them on the quay at St. Helier at five o’clock in
the morning. The rest can taxi into town
to find beds. Bertie says he will stay
with Biggles. Biggles bemoans his memory. “If I hadn’t recognised Limpy Logan on the
quay at Polcarron, I might at this moment have been snug in my own little bed”.
